On April 2, 2019 CO-LaN Management Board decided to accept the request for Consultancy Services made by KBC about using COBIA to wrap MultiFlash (which is already a CAPE-OPEN thermodynamic server using COM middleware technology). On August 19, 2019, CO-LaN secured AmsterCHEM by contract as the provider of consultancy services to KBC for a maximum of twenty man-hours till end of 2019.
As of December 31, 2019, KBC had used only 8 man-hours from AmsterCHEM while the COBIA interface around MultiFlash is in place and working. It still needs further, more thorough, testing before commercial release. In addition input from AmsterCHEM on performance aspects could still be very helpful.
Consequently CO-LaN has decided to extend the duration of the contract with AmsterCHEM till December 31, 2020 in order for KBC to continue benefiting from the consultancy services delivered by Jasper van BATEN.
So far it appears that COBIA has provided what it was meant for: a swift and efficient way to implement the CAPE-OPEN standard with very low need for expert advice during development.
