Here is a summary of what took place in May 2021.
AmsterCHEM has released its Python CAPE-OPEN Unit Operation: it represents a new solution for prototyping the model of a Unit Operation while ensuring the model will be interoperable in any process simulator relying on CAPE-OPEN for interoperability. The Python CAPE-OPEN Unit Operation builds on COBIA middleware which is a first-ever use worth noting. It complements other wrappers such as the MATLAB, Scilab and Microsoft Excel ones also proposed by AmsterCHEM.
This month CO-LaN has seen further progress in COBIA 1.2 maintenance with two minor, behind the scene, corrections applied that should find their way in an upcoming new release of COBIA 1.2. As many have done already, you are welcome to download the COBIA Software Development Kit and to make use of it for the development of your COBIA-based applications.
The first results of COBIA Phase III have been released by AmsterCHEM to the Methods & Tools Special Interest Group and approved by the SIG: high-level design of marshalling specific to COBIA-based interoperability. It opens the way to a detailed design of the interfaces to be implemented by marshallers.
The Methods & Tools Special Interest Group has progressed the Reporting Common Interface specification that is already part of CAPE-OPEN 1.2, the CAPE-OPEN version supported in COBIA 1.2. To complement the current design, the ability has been introduced for a process simulator to specify its requirements in terms of images and character encoding used for reporting.
We hope to be able to announce soon when exactly the CAPE-OPEN 2021 Annual Meeting will take place. The current proposal is that it will take place in October. Not really a surprise for those of you familiar with this type of event.
CO-LaN thanks all the Associate Members in groups A and B that have committed resources to CO-LaN’s operations. These additional resources largely support the technical activities mentioned above. In May 2021, Dassault Systèmes (substituting for Cosmologic GmbH they absorbed a while back) and IFPEN have pledged to support CO-LaN as Group A members.
