Here is a summary of what took place in June 2019.
CO-LaN Management Board has decided to organize the CAPE-OPEN 2019 Annual Meeting in Amsterdam, The Netherlands on October 22 and October 23 with Shell hosting the meeting in its facilities. You are invited to attend and to present on CAPE-OPEN. Please notify your intents as soon as possible by answering this message. It is your participation which has always made CAPE-OPEN meetings a success.
On the issue of which license scheme to apply to COBIA and other software released by CO-LaN, an issue much discussed at the CAPE-OPEN 2018 Annual Meeting, Management Board has now received legal advice that should help determine the course to take. It is expected that the decision is in force for the CAPE-OPEN 2019 Annual Meeting.
On a technical note, CO-LaN would like to stress out the need to use the CAPE-OPEN Type Libraries and Primary Interop installers (in fact the merge modules using Windows Installer technology), as distributed by CO-LaN, both when developing software implementing CAPE-OPEN and when developing the installation procedures of such software. As demonstrated a number of times, it is the most secure way to deal with multiple installations of the CAPE-OPEN definitions and also to guarantee .NET./COM interoperability through CAPE-OPEN.
It is worth mentioning that the Thermo Special Interest Group has further enhanced the Chemical Reactions interface specification by addressing the case where compounds involved in reactions as reactants are not present in the feed of a reactor unit operation. Addtional methods have been defined that help to deal with such a situation that otherwise could lead to numerical issues. This will be reported in details at the CAPE-OPEN 2019 Annual Meeting.
As always CO-LaN encourages you to publish on your experience with CAPE-OPEN as many have already done. Also please feel free to distribute this newsletter within your organization.
