The Interoperability SIG met from 9 am till 10 am European Central Time.
Agenda
Versioning and COBIA
Participants
Malcolm WOODMAN, Michael HALLORAN (Contractor for CO-LaN), Michel PONS (Contractor for CO-LaN as Chief Technology Officer)
Highlights
Versioning: the mail exchanges between Jasper van BATEN and Michael HALLORAN were analyzed. A common ground appeared on the Errata & Clarifications documents which are an issue rather than a solution! Still there is a need to make clear the constraints under which most commercial vendors operate regarding release cycles, development and prioritisation. Especially changes to the CAPE-OPEN standard must not break existing implementations. A proposal for future release cycles is worked out: V1.2 soon, with just flowsheet monitoring and future releases on an annual basis, if there is one or more update ready for release.
COBIA: interoperability between COBIA and COM is only maintained through the use of COMBIA. If both sides do not implement COBIA, then there is no benefit to implementing COBIA except that COBIA makes it easier for the developer to implement so make it more likely that (especially) PMC vendors / producers will implement CAPE-OPEN interfaces.
Next meeting is scheduled for August 16, 2018.
Any CO-LaN member with interest in the development of the set of software tools offered by CO-LaN is welcome to join. Please contact Malcolm WOODMAN, leader of the Interoperability SIG for further information.
