The Thermo SIG met from 10:30 am till 11:45 pm (Central European Time).
Agenda
Chemical Reaction Package interface specification
Participants
BASF (represented by Sergej BLAGOV), Michel PONS (contractor for CO-LaN)
Highlights
The section on energy balance was further discussed and developed in the reaction engineering background chapter. Was addressed the approach taken towards discrepancies between a Chemical Reaction Server and a Property Package in terms of thermodynamic reference. The point made is that the discrepancies present are often necessary to properly represent reality. The fact that the interface design must take into account these discrepancies is not making a judgment call on the way a Chemical Reaction Server is implemented. Rather the design recognizes the need for such discrepancies. Relying only on heats of formation in order to properly model heat of reaction is not delivering a suitable representation of reality. Changes are made in the wording used with no impact on the design itself. By considering such discrepancies are a proper practice, it is hoped that developers of Chemical Reaction Servers and Property Packages will take the necessary actions to provide a proper evaluation of the term showing the discrepancies and enabling these to be handled properly.
Next conference call is scheduled for August 7, 2018.
