Aspentech and Fluent, two Associate Members of CO-LaN, published today a joint press release on the interoperability of their process engineering software thanks to CAPE-OPEN interfaces.
The development of the necessary software tools was partially funded by the U.S. Department of Energy through the National Energy Technology Laboratory (another Associate Member of CO-LaN). This led to the Advanced Process Engineering Co-Simulator (APECS) used by a number of industrial actors to develop “power-plant process simulations with detailed plant component software to meet DOE’s goal of modeling the performance of these complex systems”.
The coupling uses the CAPE-OPEN interface standards for unit operations, physical properties, and reaction kinetics.
CO-LaN welcomes this major announcement that shows that CAPE-OPEN is a reliable technology adopted by major software vendors and end-user organizations.
