Abstract: the release of PRO/II v10.0 in a 32-bit version as well as in a 64-bit version led Schneider Electric to develop a CAPE-OPEN Thermo socket and a CAPE-OPEN Unit socket in the 64 bit version that enables the plug-in of CAPE-OPEN 64 bit PMCs. Schneider Electric also developed a solution for letting PRO/II 64 bits consumes 32-bit PMCs. The installation package of PRO/II v10.0 makes use of the CAPE-OPEN Type Libraries and Primary Interop Assemblies installers provided recently by CO-LaN.

Editor’s note: the release of a 64-bit version of PRO/II with sockets for 64-bit PMCs makes a business case for developing a 64-bit version of the loggers included in the CAPE-OPEN Logging and Testing Tool (COLTT) made available by CO-LaN. To take full advantage of PRO/II 64-bit version with CAPE-OPEN PMCs, existing 32-bit PMCs should be brought up to 64-bit architecture. This direction is taken by a number of software vendors. Incorporation of the TLB/PIA installers provided by CO-LaN in the installation package of PRO/II v10.0 is good news for the safety and the reliability of CAPE-OPEN interoperability. Still it puts more responsability on CO-LaN to develop an installation solution which is completely safe.
