Back in fall 2013, Jasper van Baten (AmsterCHEM) and Michel Pons (CO-LaN CTO) were asked to provide a review paper on CAPE-OPEN for inclusion in a special issue of Chemie Ingenieur Technik focusing on modelling and simulation in process engineering.
With the help from Richard Baur (Shell Global Solutions) and Malcolm Woodman (BP), a paper has been written where CAPE-OPEN itself is briefly explained, the motivations for CAPE-OPEN are summarized and then lists are provided of software implementing and calling CAPE-OPEN interfaces: Process Modelling Environments, Unit Operation models, thermodynamic software components. The industrial relevance of CAPE-OPEN is then described through a number of industrial application examples.
