The Department of Energy and Process Engineering (EPT) is an international driving force within education and research on the total energy chain from resource to customer. We work on how to produce energy which can be used by man and machine in a sustainable way, taking into consideration health, climate changes and available resources.

EPT is the largest department at the Faculty of Engineering Science and Technology.

As of January 1, 2021, NTNU-EPT is an Associate Member in Group C as per the bylaws adopted on October 15, 2020.

CAPE-OPEN related activities:

In 2017 Olav BOLLAND co-signed a paper in Fuel about the selection of a suitable software for the process simulation of post-combustion CO2 capture for coal-fired power plant. CAPE-OPEN implementation is briefly mentioned as one of the criteria of comparison: Dutta, R., Nord, L.O., Bolland, O., 2017. Prospects of using equilibrium-based column models in dynamic process simulation of post-combustion CO2 capture for coal-fired power plant. Fuel 202, 85–97.

In 2018, Odne S. BURHEIM from EPT co-signed a paper in Fuel on improving carbon efficiency and profitability of the biomass to liquid process where a MATLAB CAPE-OPEN Unit Operation modelling a Fischer-Tropsch reactor is used as a plug into Aspen Hysys.
