The CAPE-OPEN 2016 Annual Meeting took place on October 5 and October 6, 2016 and was very pleasantly hosted by Linde AG on their premises in Pullach, Germany. The meeting benefited largely from the arrangements made by Linde Engineering. CO-LaN is thankful to Linde Engineering for offering such arrangements.
It was attended by more than twenty member representatives and 3rd parties. Below, from left to right Andreas GRENNER (Linde Engineering), Laurent TESTARD (Halias Technologies), Volker SIEPMANN (Yara International), Bryn STENHOUSE (CO-LaN), Richard BAUR (Shell Global Solutions), Krishna Murthy PENUKONDA (Schneider Electric), Peter MAUER (BASF SE), Jasper van BATEN (AmsterCHEM), David GIBBONS (HTRI), Bjørn MARIBO-MOGENSEN (Hafnium Labs), Hans-Günter SIMON (Linde Engineering), Sergej BLAGOV (BASF SE), Andreas KRÖNER (Linde Engineering), Gregor TOLKSDORF (Technische Universität Berlin), Mark STIJNMAN (Shell Global Solutions), Michael HLAVINKA (Bryan Research & Engineering), Richard SZCZEPANSKI (KBC Advanced Technologies), Olaf Trygve BERGLIHN (SINTEF), Iljana MIETHE (Linde Engineering), William BARRETT (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency), Oliver KOCH (Linde Engineering). Agenda: (list of presentations)
Andreas GRENNER from Linde Engineering presented “LINDE field report on CAPE-OPEN Thermo“.
Krishna Murthy PENUKONDA presented a “CAPE-OPEN: Update in PRO/II v10.0“. Krishna Murthy is a Senior Principal Software Development engineer at Schneider Electric in Hyderanad, India. As developer of PRO/II since 2002, Krishna Murthy has been handling a number of secondary support issues related to CAPE-OPEN, leader of CO-LaN UNIT Special Interest Group.
William BARRETT presented the “Methods & Tools SIG activity report“. Since 2001 Bill has worked with the US Environmental Protection Agency, Sustainable Technology Division on applications of Computer-Aided Process Engineering aimed at improving the environmental performance of chemical processes. Bill is the leader of the Methods & Tools Special Interest Group since it was re-commissioned in 2009.
Jasper van BATEN presented “COBIA Phase I”. Jasper is a leading expert in CAPE-OPEN, has developed his own suite of PME and PMCs adhering to the CAPE-OPEN standard, is regularly providing consultancy services on the implementation of CAPE-OPEN interfaces, is active in many CO-LaN SIGs and co-leads the Thermo SIG.
Sergej BLAGOV, co-leader of the Thermo SIG, presented the “Thermo SIG activity report“. Sergej, recipient of the CAPE-OPEN 2014 Award, is a thermodynamic expert at BASF.
Krishna Murthy PENUKONDA, in his role of UNIT SIG leader, presented the “UNIT SIG activity report“.
Malcolm WOODMAN, as leader of the Interoperability SIG, presented the “Interoperability SIG activity report“. Malcolm, now an independent consultant, was previously representing BP within CO-LaN.
A workshop on self-certification was introduced by Laurent TESTARD (Halias Technologies) and moderated by Malcolm WOODMAN. Oliver KOCH presented the CO-LaN Management viewpoint on self-certification: a key objective of CO-LaN is to support and maintain the CAPE-OPEN standard for interoperability between process modelling software tools. The seamless integration of CAPE-OPEN software is important for both sides: for the operating companies to ensure the profitability of engineering projects and for the software vendors to deliver competitive products that satisfy their customers’ needs. To improve the quality of CAPE-OPEN implementations it is proposed to introduce the concept of a CAPE-OPEN certificate for software components and environments. The scheduled workshop introduced a proposal of how a self-certification process could work and opened the floor for a discussion of this topic between all involved parties to find a balanced approach.
Within the CAPE-OPEN 2016 Annual Meeting, the Annual General Meeting of Members took place on October 6 morning, from 9 am till 10 am.
