Thermo Special Interest Group met on May 31, 2022 from 11 am till 1 pm (Central European Time).
Agenda
Draft of Manager Common Interface Specification
Participants
BASF (represented by Sergej BLAGOV), AmsterCHEM (represented by Jasper van BATEN), University of Cape Town (represented by Prof. Klaus MÖLLER), Michel PONS (Consultant as Chief Technology Officer)
Highlights
Thermo SIG progressed the “Requirements” section of the Manager Common Interface Specification. Apart from some polishing and adaptation of vocabulary used, the following points were addressed:
- A new requirement was introduced, that objects managed by a Manager are Primary Process Modelling Components (PMCs). Making this a separate requirement will help develop corresponding compliancy test.
- The requirement on the functionality of a Manager to provide the list of Templates managed was annotated to stress out that the presence of a Template in the list does not imply an object can be instantiated from that Template. Indeed, after some discussion, it was considered that no adequate testing of how the list displayed is valid could be developed while failing on the instantiation of Primary PMCs by a Manager may occur for perfectly valid reasons, like licensing issues.
- The rationale about uniqueness of names given to Templates was added to the text.
- Rewording and enhancements were brought to the requirement on the PME to persist sufficient information to create the Manager when persisting a Primary PMC managed by the Manager.
- For clarification purposes, rewording was made of the requirement that data persisted by a Primary PMC Object must contain sufficient information to allow the Manager to re-create the Object in the same state as it was persisted.
Thermo SIG began to introduce the design decision that types of objects managed by a Manager have their counterpart as stand-alone objects. This has been the rule so far in CAPE-OPEN and the rationale to continue with this rule is being developed.
Next meeting is scheduled for June 7, 2022.
Any CO-LaN Member interested in the Thermo SIG activities is welcome to join this Special Interest Group. Contact the co-leaders of the SIG for further information: Sergej BLAGOV at BASF () and Jasper van BATEN at AmsterCHEM (). The Thermo SIG is looking for additional parties, well versed into any aspect of thermodynamics applied to process simulation and willing to contribute to the maintenance and development of CAPE-OPEN interface specifications related to thermodynamical aspects.
