The Methods & Tools Special Interest Group and the Interoperability Special Interest Group held today a joint meeting from 7:30 pm till 8:55 pm Central European Summer Time.

Participants

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (represented by Bill BARRETT), AmsterCHEM (represented by Jasper van BATEN), Bryan Research & Engineering (represented by Michael HLAVINKA), Malcolm WOODMAN, Michel PONS (contractor to CO-LaN as Chief Technology Officer).

Highlights

The participants went over the identified remaining issues with the candidate release (version 2.1.1) of the installers of the CAPE-OPEN Type Libraries and Primary Interop Assemblies as developed by AmsterCHEM, Céondo GmbH and Marcus Bruno FERNANDES SILVA under contract from CO-LaN. These issues are:

  • Installation and uninstallation of the 2.0 version of the installers and of two instances of the new version (2.1.1) have been tested in different orders
    • In some scenarios, some orphaned registry keys get left behind
  • 32-bit merge module does not install the 32-bit PIA into the General Assembly Cache (GAC) to avoid conflict with installation packages using both 32-bit and 64-bit merge modules
  • Building an installation project with InstallShield using a merge module generates warnings
    • Most were generated also with version 2.0 of the merge modules
    • One extra warning generated from installer component related to extension type library, because same component id is used for 32-bit and 64-bit installer components

Various tests and verifications were performed during the meeting. The conclusion is that the above listed issues “can be lived with”.

Therefore the Interoperability Special Interest Group and the Methods & Tools Special Interest Group conclude that version 2.1.1 can be released using the latest candidate release dated July 12, 2021.

The developer guide for the CAPE-OPEN Type Libraries and Primary Interop Assemblies needs however to be further updated to be made more consistent with the release and to reflect on the issues listed above. Modifications to the document will be made by Michel PONS and reviewed by the Methods & Tools Special Interest Group.
