Technical overview COBIA Phase III
Highlights
The participants revised the general overview at the beginning of the document that will serve as technical specification for the work in Phase III of the COBIA development project should it be launched by CO-LaN Management Board.
Phase III is meant to be mostly about marshaling, i.e. “the process of transforming the memory representation of an object to a data format suitable for storage or transmission” (Wikipedia). The role of the CAPE-OPEN IDL within the implementation of marshalling is already mentioned in the general overview and needs to be explicited further. In order to avoid any misunderstanding, it is also necessary to converge on a suitable vocabulary (marshalers/proxies/language bindings) used to define the software objects involved in the marshalling since the architecture has evolved from what was presented at some length at the CAPE-OPEN 2018 Annual Meeting. The means to connect objects, to instantiate objects have also to be clarified.
