At the CAPE-OPEN 2019 Annual Meeting, Malcolm WOODMAN presented (access PDF here) on the business requirements of certification. Malcolm has been contracted by CO-LaN in order to develop the strategic plan for the Certification Special Interest Group.
First Malcolm lists the different levels of certification which can be considered. Each level has its strengths and weaknesses.
Establishing certification through CO-LaN will require financial resources that can be obtained under various business models which are described. As an example Malcolm cited the OPC Foundation which has been an example for CAPE-OPEN since starting the CAPE-OPEN activities back in the 90s.
Next Malcolm lists where the costs to CO-LaN will be for establishing a certification activity. These costs are related to the certification process which is further outlined by Malcolm, at least as a draft.
Then Malcolm reports on the recent Request For Bids issued by CO-LaN in order to secure an additional contractor in order to support software tools delivered by CO-LaN, to the exception of COBIA.
