Summary
The Methods & Tools Special Interest Group is developing the specification for the installers of COBIA middleware and COBIA Software Development Kit (SDK). Before the previous joint meeting of both Special Interest Groups, this textual specification has been provided to the Interoperability Special Interest Group for review and comments . Since CO-LaN is considering out-sourcing the development and maintenance of these installers, Michael HALLORAN has reviewed the document for completeness and ability for a 3rd party to implement based on documentation. Comments made by Michael HALLORAN have been passed to the Methods & Tools Special Interest Group and are currently being worked out by the Methods & Tools Special Interest Group.
The additional safety measure has been implemented as defined at the previous meeting for the code signing certificate CO-LaN is using for the software it is distributing (COLTT, CAPE-OPEN TLB/PIA for the moment and COBIA installers next).
Michel PONS reported on the issue of which license model will be applied to COBIA: it is still discussed at the CO-LaN Management Board level. A choice needs to be made before releasing COBIA through installers. After the input received from software vendors and end-users especially at the CAPE-OPEN 2018 Annual Meeting, CO-LaN Management Board is going to request input from a professional legal team.
Further investigation by Michael HALLORAN has not progressed on issues encountered while trying to apply versioning on installers.
How to organize testing of COBIA middleware is a question which has been raised between the Methods & Tools and the Interoperability Special Interest Groups. Michel PONS reported that research on testing of similar middleware proved inconclusive.
The next joint meeting of the Methods & Tools Special Interest Group and of the Interoperability Special Interest Group is scheduled for March 27, 2019.
